It’s been our third visit here which speaks for itself. It’s a family run site in the middle of the countryside. The comino is on the doorstep. We had a meal on the first evening. We had the set menu which was good value.
We walked up to the castle and it was stunning scenery. The castle was interesting too. Unfortunately it was very cold so we only stayed two nights.
We stayed here on route to Santander for 2 nights.
Lovely quiet site with amazing views of the castle above. The campsite is a small family run site with a bar and restaurant and limited groceries. The facilities are basic but adequate.
We decided to sample the much raved about roast lamb, basic home cooking at fine dining prices, for two people.
If you like old fashioned style rustic traditional camping you will love this site. If you want modern style with lots of on-site action it’s not for you. We stayed for 5 nights and loved it. Our pitch was plenty big enough for our 6m panel van, nice and sunny with a view of the castle. Pitches may look scruffy but hard to manicure the grass in such a sandy environment. We liked the fact that quite a few cyclists and walkers used it for camping. A real campsite. The family who own it work hard with the son? Speaking decent English and very helpful. We ate at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere with locals present. Didn’t try the lamb though. Fabulous home made chips which we had one night as takeaway with our supper.. wash facilities are old but spotless with hot water. The village is a nice stroll/ bike ride away with a decent supermarket, several restaurants and bars and quite busy with walkers. We loved this site for a few days relaxation and rustic camping how it should be. Hope to return
A little Gem. Peaceful and quite. perfect start to our holiday. Easy afternoon drive from Santander. The pritches are a little on the small size for our 7 m caravan (no space for awning) but large enough for our planned stay. Staff are friendly and helpful. After a short period you feel the modern world and all it woes ebb away.
This is one of our favourite campsites in Spain and we stayed here again for three nights. Certainly the facilities could do with a modernisation, but we love it here. The surrounding area is stunning. The pitches are fine. We thoroughly enjoyed the oven baked roast lamb special meal again. Roberto is very helpful. The shop has a few items but there is a supermarket in the town, close to a bank, chemist and tobacconist. We would have stayed longer but the ferry home calls. We will be back!
Facilities clean and tidy. Plenty of hot water for showers. Pitches slightly sloping and a bit overgrown in places. Lovely view of the castle from our pitch. We were tempted to try the lamb, which was very tender and delicious but as others have commented, quite expensive. There is a well stocked little shop with fresh produce - rare for a camp site. We only stayed the one night on our way south so we didn\'t explore the area. We would stay here again.
Site very quiet, pitches small & cramped. The much talked about lamb was disappointing & very expensive. Toilet facilities very tired but clean. Not a lot to see around the area. The site fees were expensive for this site.
we decided to travel to this site from Caravanning Oyambre site which is superb as the reviews in general were good. what a disappointment. The place is run down, shabby to say the least and pitches tiny. we have a Eriba tourer and when siteing van and car there was no other room to sit out. This was without either a canopy or awning (no chance). The owner\'s son who runs the place could be labeled laid back, I would describe him couldn\'t care less!
Tried to talk us into the special meal which is always slow cooked lamb apparently. We considered but decided to cook ourselves. Some neighbours who arrived at same time tried it and their opinion was expensive for whatever it is as she did not think it was lamb !.
We went for a drink in the cafe/bar area but no seats as seems full of locals. Went to the Games room to finish drinks as it chilly to sit outside, this room is used as store come broken equipment area. Pool table had 3 big rips in cloth , a electronic darts board not connected, fuss ball game which might have worked and lots of other junk.
During the night I was awakened by my car alarm sounding at 04:30am . Went to look but no one around and checked car to see if I could have left something slightly open but no everything secure !!!
We decided to leave this morning.
This is our favourite site so far and we are still travelling (middle of May). We stayed here in early April. The reception staff (dont know his name) was really helpful and spoke really good English and nothing was too much trouble. The camp site is small but fabulous. Great little bar and restaurant. The little town is so beautiful and the views are outstanding. The castle is well worth a visit. Nice big climb up there but well worth it. Good for cycling around the area as it\'s quite flat. Will definitely go back there (one day).
Great site, very quiet. It's situated on the edge of a very old village, with a castle at the top, miles from anywhere. The facilities were very clean and had very hot water, as said before the shower taps were strange, but you could override the push button, perhaps one day they will change it, probably a good idea at the time, which never worked. We had the roast leg of lamb, cooked in the bread oven, which we would recommend, although a little pricey, was worth the treat. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We would be happy to return.
